Welcome to the "Middle of the World" - literally (Portuguese title: "O Caminho das nuvens")

Brazil has sent the USA some very strong films recently, from "City of God" (which garnered 4 Oscar nominations) to the documentary "Bus 174," and now this travelogue from first-time 'fiction'-feature director Vincente Amorim makes for an engaging ride too - a bicycle ride!
Based on a true story, this movie takes place on and along a Brazilian two-lane blacktop road that traverses the countryside for hundreds of miles with its final destination being the golden city of Rio de Janeiro. If this was an endurance cycling movie, like the classic American movie "Breaking Away," a bike trip would be visually interesting in and of itself, but this story details the long journey of a family of five on ordinary single-speed bikes, who put themselves to the test in order to find a good life in the big city.

The major element that separates this type of travelogue from the documentary genre is its gorgeous cast headed up by Claudia Abreu ("Four Days in September") as the mother 'Rose,' a woman who willingly joins her husband on a mad odyssey that forces her to raise her young kids on the road while singing for the family's supper - literally! As a Brazillian wife, Abreu readily conveys the conflicted desperation of a woman who must obey her husband in order to keep the family together while wishing the journey to end so they can all settle down to a normal life once again.

The hunky actor Wagner Moura ("Carandiru") plays her young husband 'Ramao', an unemployed truck driver who's deeply held religious beliefs have led him to concoct this seemingly impossible task. But as he says early in the film, "I am a man of destiny" and it's this sincerely felt credo that keeps him on track to his final destination no matter what the obstacles or detours along the way.

As a family film, this story provides some frank but honest situations as well as hewing close to the deeply felt religious beliefs that hold this struggling family together. In a society where divorce is out of the question, it's interesting to see a group of individuals pull together for the sake of the family unit as a whole. Not the kind of story you'd see in America where everyone seems to bail out at the first hint of trouble in a marriage. Worth a look if family drama is yor genre.


Can an entire family bicycle ride their way across a country the size of Brazil?

It does time that do not enter in my one Web Blog Journal.  I apologize by do not visit each friend that came here.  Today the day is very hot.  Hot too.  But it is always like this in this epoch of the year.  The climate of the place where do I live is very hot.  Ace times rains a lot and the heat I diminished a little.  It has epochs of the year that is cold.  But the a lot not hard coldness.

The days are not good.  Is a boredom the days.  I am of vacation of the school.  The classes are going to begin day 10 of February after the carnival.  The vacation are good because we stayed free of the school.  I like of the school.  But we should have vacation ok? 

The school vacations are in any case, a little “xato” (“xato” signifies: boredom).  There is not nothing pra do.  The friends add.  The majority travels.  In the street where do I live do not I have many friends.  There is the Helton.  But he work.  Very of my friends of the street where do I live moved from neighborhood.  Were for a distant neighborhood.  The Juarez and the Rafael are good friends.  It is difficult see they.  They moved for a distant neighborhood of mine. 

The Gabriel also is a good friend.  He helps the father of him in the shop.  End of week, ace times he is going to sleep in my house.  I like when he comes like this done not I stay alone at home.  And I have with who joke.  We stayed in the net in the fotolog.  Net and we play video game.  The Gabriel has two small brothers.  He does not like the brothers of him. 

If I had brothers, I would be good with them.  That is real.  I think that is good have brother.  Like to have a.  Like this it would not stay alone as I am in that moment.  It is good have friends.  I would teach it use the computer and to net.  And it would do a blog for him.  It is a lot stayed alone.  My sister already is an adult.  Adults are unlike infants.

Day 21 of this week in the Friday fair I am going to travel with the Uncle Ronilson.  We go for the Bolivia.  Bolivia nearby Brazil.  We will go for city of Guayará-Mirin.  I stayed barely three days.  Uncle Ronilson is discipulador of the young group of the church where do I congregate.  It will be very good for me is they travel.  I think that yes.

I like of play video game.  The game that myself more I like is Final Fantasy.  Play all the series.  I like of watch film.  My film preferred of fiction, action, adventure, film of martial arts and film of terror. 

I like of read and of write.  I am very good in editing.  In my school matter preferred is mathematics and Portuguese language.  Also I like of study the English language.  I am of vacation of the school.  The vacations are not good.  Are barges.  There is not a lot thing for be done.  I pass most of my time at home.  Perhaps day 21 I travel for Guajará Mirim and of there I will go for the Bolivia.  Bolivia is a country foreigner.  It does limit with Brazil.  I will go with the Uncle Ronilson of the church.  It will be a good walk for me.  I think that yes.

 One of the things that more like is of hear you set to music.  I am going to hear you set to music.  Everyone here at home likes.  My mother has a vinyl disks box.  She has CDS also.  Already I have mine own collection of CDS.  At home the day wakes up with you set to music.  My mother wakes up very early.  And it links soon I prepare him of sound.

Today the day was very good.  I watched the film “I Robot”.  It is a good film.  I liked he.  Film about 'Artificial Intelligence' always interested me.  The revolution that can occur when the machines stayed intelligent as to be been him always interesting, since our technology already is amounting to that point.  I think that is. 

After trilogy 'Matrix', that tried show us what happens after that revolution, the film 'I, Robot', sample the revolution of the robot.  The film is going to do this a lot well. 

 The film was inspired in the collection of stories of Isaac Asimov, the film is passed in the year 2035, where robots are presents in all the residences, and everybody trusted in them, except a detective (Smith) that investigates a crime that he is going to have been caused by a robot.  The crime the tappet it uncover and a lot threat more terror for the human race. 

 The history of the film is passed in the Chicago of 2035, when the robots already are grossly integrated to the society.  The scientist Dr. Lanning works with technology robotic, but prisoner lives.  Will Smith is the detective Del Spooner, that, even having fear of technology, is obliged it investigate a murder that is going to have been comet do by a creation of the Dr. Lanning.  Spooner has the help of Susan Calvin specialist in the mind of the robots, for resolve the case.   

 In my opinion I, Robot' is one of the best film of Will Smith.  The scenes of action are well deeds.
